How a tip is calculated
The tip is a percentage of the bill: tip = bill × tip percent ÷ 100. An 18% tip on a 60.00 bill is 60 × 18 ÷ 100 = 10.80, for a 70.80 total. When several people share the bill, both the tip and the total are divided evenly, so everyone knows exactly what to put in.
